Bookmark with cameras
But that’s not the main thing that has happened on the back of the Galaxy S21 series. The Korean company, in cooperation with designers, once again significantly dug up the appearance of the frame around the cameras. Last year’s (and now I’ll use my own name) rectangular “pool” with lenses drowned under one glass this time replaced an irregular “tab” that delimits separately glazed sensors and blends itself with the corner of the cell phone. For me personally, absolute beauty and praise to the designers. When I put the last S Ultra models next to each other, they are completely different worlds, of which the newer one is many times nicer in my eyes. But… appearance is not everything…
The module with cameras is again very high above the level of the back (approx. 2 millimeters) and at the same time is located on one side only. This logically means that the phone vibrates extremely when placed on a table and then operated. This bothers me a lot, as I am used to using mobile phones very often in this position. In this respect, on the contrary I’m a fan of a solution with a module in the middle (for example, the Huawei Mate 40 series) or stretched across the entire width of the back (as demonstrated by the OnePlus 8T Cyberpunk 2077 edition). Otherwise, the owner has nothing left but to buy a package that eliminates this geometric mess. For the S20 Ultra, I have a perfect protective and “balancing” case from Nillkin for about 150 crowns, so it’s a cheap solution.
Plenty of power for work and play
In terms of performance, Samsung is facing (through no fault of its own) criticism using different processor units in different regions. It supplies mobile phones to China and the USA with generally more popular and, according to tests, also more powerful Snapdragon chipsets from the American company Qualcomm. In the rest of the world, customers have to “settle” for Exynos processors directly from Samsung. At the moment, we are talking about the Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 models. Samsung claims that the processors are at the same level this year or that its even better, the critics claim the opposite. And I say that I almost don’t care. During practical use, I did not come across the moment when the phone would be chopped up, slowed down or even warmed up in any way. The following three images show the results from the AnTuTu Benchmark. I will add that I tested a variant with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.
DeX and the like are the future
The proof of sufficient performance is also these three paragraphs, which I wrote for the test via the DeX system (in the Google Chrome browser, the infamous eater of RAM). I believe that it is in these systems that they make a mobile computer, lies the future of using the ever – increasing power of smartphones. Therefore, it is certainly interesting to test them. Through DeX, I also played graphically demanding games, for example. I really can’t complain about lack of performance or slow response. Unless to fight the qwerty keyboard. So my conclusion in this regard is: If you don’t want to squeeze your cell phone to the fullest and look at every percentage that Snapdragon may have for good, really don’t solve the processor. You will probably never get to a state where the differences will show. However, I still insist that if Samsung wants to sell the same models with different processors in other markets, it should somehow take this into account, for example, in terms of price.
It is certainly appropriate to include the display in the performance category. With the Ultra model, it again has a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels with a PPI value (number of dots per inch) exceeding a nice limit of 500. With the S21 Ultra, it is a novelty that even in this highest resolution, the display can “flicker” by high frequency 120 Hz. That is very good news. However, the frequency is controlled dynamically according to what content is currently appearing on the screen. It is, of course, nonsense to use the fastest frequency, for example, for viewing images. This practice is not negligible manifests itself in battery life. In the phone menu, it is therefore possible to switch between the frequency of 60 Hz and a dynamically controlled frequency with a ceiling of 120 Hz.
Cameras and cameras in the spotlight again
Last year, the S20 Ultra made a big impression by having a 108-megapixel lens as its main photosensor, as well as a 100x hybrid zoom. Nothing has changed after a year, although these two specific values are more of a marketing tool than a practical tool. Overall, however, the shooting process of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra has improved and the new setup and assembly makes more sense. So first, the main lens now seconds laser focusing. It also withdrew from the 48-megapixel “periscope”, which is being replaced by two 10-megapixel. One has the ability to triple and the other tenfold optical zoom. In combination with other differences in luminosity and focal lengths, these are hilarious tandem for really high-quality photography with zooming. The fourth sensor is a traditional 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with a great 120-degree grip.
Look forward to the duel Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra vs. S21 Ultra
In the gallery under this paragraph, you will find in three series some basic types of photos from the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. And in order: standard car (12mpx) – ultra wide – full (108mpx) – 3x zoom – 10x zoom – 30x zoom – 100x zoom. You can watch them in full resolution in the album on Google Photos.
Comparison with the predecessor
We will serve you another big batch in a few days in a detailed comparison of photographic capabilities between this year’s novelty and last year’s S20 Ultra. It is this comparison that will certainly be decisive for many interested parties when choosing a new mobile phone, so we want to dedicate a separate article to it. There will also be night shots, panoramas, macro photos and / or portraits, for which the change is really well known.
The Camera application has received two new photo / video modes. Both can be found in the Next section. The first is AR drawing, through which it is possible to draw with the selected tools or add objects to the scanned space. I wasn’t very interested in it, I take it as just a side function to drive away creative appetites. It is much more interesting The director’s view, which allows you to preview all mobile phone lenses during video recording. You can switch between them and determine how and how the scene will be shot. Many people will certainly appreciate this.
A new assistant began to help with focusing at close range. Its task is to switch faster and more reliably between lenses, which should take care of the best possible photo. With the S20 Ultra, the sensor software was a bit of an argument, and for a long time, autofocus was the target of criticism. It seems to be much better here. The so-called Focus improvements triggers itself as soon as you try to shoot something up close. For screenshots with the keyboard, you may notice how the position of the keys has changed a bit. It’s not that I move the phone while capturing the screen, but that I automatically switch to the secondary lens.
Stamina? Such a modern classic
The ultra variant again has a battery with capacity 5000 mAh. Because it’s essentially no new components or gadgets, the display frequency is controlled dynamically and overall has the same demands as last year’s model, you can safely expect the same or better results in terms of battery life. I forgot to plug in my mobile phone several times after using it all day, but fortunately it didn’t matter at all. He still served all morning, before he was hungry around noon. I have not yet performed detailed stress tests taking into account, for example, playing games or navigating. However, the attached images show at least the basic data recorded over the last few days.
Samsung, give me a pen!
One of the other groundbreaking things that the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is responsible for is the support of the S Pen smart pen. Previously exclusive accessories designed for Note and Samsung tablets can now communicate with the most equipped novelty in the S21 series (the other two models do not support it). The pen is, however surcharge item and for maximum comfort, it is good to take it straight with the case. The S21 Ultra does not have its own storage space for it. Unfortunately, we did not receive an S Pen designed for the Galaxy S21 Ultra for testing. Yes, you read that right, it belongs to this year’s novelty unique pen. In separate articles, you can read exactly how new the S Pen support has it and that the support of this pen for other mobile phones will continue to expand.

This year’s Ultra model is about two millimeters shorter and half a millimeter narrower than last year. But he gained five grams. We have already discussed the cameras, processor, battery, display and pen support. It is also worth mentioning the official inclusion of the technology UWB, which seems to have a great future. We’ll see what else Samsung can come up with for her. The Galaxy S21 Ultra also has a display a new generation of fingerprint sensor. It should be faster and more reliable, however, after a few minutes of testing compared to the S20 Ultra, I haven’t felt any differences yet. By that I mean that they both come in handy and fast enough. Even with wet fingers or a wet and steamy display. You will find memory variants with prices in the next section.

Final evaluation
Overall, this is a great machine that is perfected both in terms of design, performance and software. Anything else would be disappointing with such an expensive and exposed phone. Unfortunately, smaller concessions take care of that, of which some may not have come at all. In particular, the absence of a memory card slot and the reduction of the charging power to 25 watts. Add to that the fact that the phone has nothing but a USB cable in the package, and some people may really take it as a big reason to refuse. Reducing the price by CZK 1,500 (for the 12/128 GB variant) or CZK 2,000 (for the 16/512 GB variant) compared to last year’s Ultra model will not smooth the situation much. Which is really a shame, because otherwise it is really a good phone.
Pros
+ Successful design
+ Top cameras
+ Perfect display
+ High performance
+ Great equipment
Cons
– Comes without a charger
– It has no SD card slot
– Reduction of charging power to 25 W
– Due to concessions high price
