Hackers say they are on their way to breaking the protection of PS5 -apkrig

A group of hackers acting as fail0verflow during the night from Sunday to Monday announced that they had taken significant steps to run their own firmware on the PlayStation 5. cracknutí the console runs according to fail0verwlow via the root keys, which the group managed to obtain and thus open the possibility to decrypt the console’s control software and use reverse engineering to create your own software. And although hackers may be accused of doing all this in sports or in the interest of homebrew applications, such efforts can always be condensed into just two words – free games. Alarming for Sony may be the fact that fail0verflow signed a breach of PlayStation 3 protection in 2010, and although the situation is a little different now, it is possible that it cannot be done again.

The first post from tonight with a picture of a hex editor is probably not an ordinary user of consoles did not excite. The hackers only marked it with a short shout – Another one bites the dust – which they did not want to pay homage to the band Queen, but to warn that another console rolling in the dust by the road. However, the following post was more understandable and the hackers explained that they had managed to discover the mentioned root keys. “All of them can be obtained from the software – including the root key for each console. All you have to do is search thoroughly enough, “said representatives of fail0verflow, leaving a free field for discussions and fiery debates. As a result, it could actually break existing console protections and the ability to run illegal copies of games, but the question is how development has progressed in the field of other measures and whether the firmware itself will actually be able to run.

However, the fail0verflow group claims that it will not be easy for Sony to change these keys, not even with the help of a system update, which could really mean a rather unexpected disaster in 2021. And that’s something annoying is starting to happen, another hacker suggested – Andy Nguyen – who shared a post on twitter how he managed to launch a developer debug menu in the PS5 retail version. Whether the incidents are related or not is not entirely demonstrable, but in the hands of experienced people, even this shift could mean an important milestone and a change in current order. In them, console protection is considered to be almost unbreakable protection, especially with regard to constant checking of licenses of owned games, the ability to inject automatic updates into running and Internet-connected consoles and restrictions on the admissibility of a specific firmware version to run a given title. In the past, however, hackers were able to deal with this quite well and left in the air the question of whether the manufacturer of the console or the console itself actually damaged or not.

Even to that account comes sarcastic remarks that neither Microsoft nor Nintendo did it in the past did not lay down, so there is no reason to think that this will be a problem for Sony. The fact is, for example, that the PSP portable console, with the double-track firmware – official and unofficial – could not lose its entire life cycle and players could play one novelty after another without paying, and this is – we guess experience – a Japanese company certainly does not want to repeat.
