GTA 6 for smartphones: will my dream come true?

Diablo Immortal showed me for the first time that I would rather play on my smartphone in the future than on PC or console. GTA 6 would be such a hot candidate for me that I would like to have as a mobile game. Will Rockstar Games fulfill my dream?

A commentary by Peter Hryciuk

I would like to play GTA 6 on mobile

Probably not. If we’re being completely honest, as expected, GTA 6 will only be released for PC, Xbox and PlayStation. Maybe somehow I’ll be able to play GTA 6 on my smartphone via a cloud gaming service, but of course that’s not the same as with a native game. In the future, this is precisely the direction to be taken. Blizzard figures have shown that mobile games are the future. Smartphone games make more sales there than PC and console games combined.

And I look forward to that when I be able to play well-known games on my high-end smartphone or tablet in the future, which I was previously only able to play on a PC or a console in front of the television. The power is there. Some nice games prove that. Although there are already countless games for smartphones, it was Diablo Immortal that showed me that I prefer to play on my mobile – no matter where I am. And if the publishers can earn more with it than they can with classic games, then that suits me.

This must no longer happen in GTA 6:

Is that possible without Pay2Win monetization?

Diablo Immortal has earned over $100 million through the in-game shop in just two months. Of course, there are also whales, i.e. players who spend a lot of money, sometimes even 100,000 US dollars, but especially the small amounts from casual players should have made up the lion’s share of sales. Blizzard clearly exaggerated in Diablo Immortal, because you are actively prevented from progressing as a Free2Play player. But you can also find a good balance between an in-game shop and free play.

Microsoft will soon take the helm at Activision Blizzard:

That’s exactly what a GTA 6 should offer for me. I should be able to play the normal campaign in full. But if you want to splurge online with a special car, outfit or a beautiful villa, it costs money. It already works in GTA Online, for me it just has to be transferred to the smartphone.

There will always be more good mobile games

At least since the financial success and at the same time the scandal surrounding Diablo Immortal, I’m sure that many publishers of well-known games will take a very close look at the mobile sector. And that’s exactly what I’m looking forward to. GTA 6 would be perfect for smartphones. Maybe it works with that, or at least with a modification of it. One can still dream a little.
