Google wants to make Material You theme mandatory for Android 12 devices

Devices with Android 12 must have the Material You theme system launched by Google, according to new messages. Not all manufacturers adopt this new feature with the update.

Material You required?

It was one of the key features of Android 12; material you. With this theme system you can change the colors of the interface in one go, according to the colors of the set background. Another nice feature is that you can also put together your own color themes, according to your own wishes. Various (Google) apps can then take over so that it becomes one again.

According to colleagues from Android Police, Google wants to introduce the obligation that manufacturers use Material You in the Android 12 update from March 14. Not all manufacturers make this function available. But Google wants that to happen. For example, Samsung is not a manufacturer that offers this option. Instead, it offers its own alternative; Color palette.

Manufacturers who don’t bring the theme system with them could lose their Google Mobile Services license, according to the source. These give, for example, access to Maps, Chrome and other Google services.
