Google TV starts displaying ads for products rather than movies/series
Google TV, namely the evolution of Android TV, is present on televisions and multimedia boxes. Users can install several apps from the Play Store, including those from streaming services like Netflix. Advertising is also present on the home page and there is evolution.
When Google first launched ads on Android TV in 2020, the ads were framed as content recommendations, showing only movies and series available on the TV through various streaming services and apps. Things changed in 2021, when Google TV and Android TV started running movie ads in theaters, starting with Shang Chi from Marvel. Since then, this initiative has been continued and extended to the trailers of the next films in theaters depending on the country.
Now Google TV is showing ads for physical products. A user in India watch image of an advertisement for India iStore. This is a store selling Apple products in India and displays the slogan “there are so many reasons to switch to the iPhone”.
Other users in different countries have seen other advertisements. A user (who looks American) noted have an ad for Chrysler on its Sony-branded TV running Android TV. Another in Canada have the right to an ad for Tim Hortons, a Canadian chain of fast food restaurants. We can imagine that it concerns other countries, but it is not confirmed.
