Google sends email about two-step verification: what you need to know

With the title ‘How you sign in will change on November 9’, Google wants to inform you about the use of two-step verification. Are these emails real or fake?

You’ll be signing in to Google with two-step verification soon. To notify users, Google users will receive an email from Google explaining two-step verification. However, many questions have been received with the Scammed program asking whether this e-mail is genuine, or whether it is a form of phishing or fraud.

In principle, the mail comes from Google itself. As part of better account security, certain accounts are introducing a requirement to use two-step verification.

To make sure that this email is really from Google, you can check it yourself. Make sure the button/link links to accounts.google.com by hovering your mouse over the link, or by long-pressing the link on the smartphone before clicking or tapping.
