Google scraps foldable Pixel phone a second time

Google may not reveal a foldable Pixel phone in the fall, according to new information from South Korean media. The foldable smartphone, called the ‘Pixel Notepad’, does not live up to expectations.

Pixel Notepad Deleted

It is gradually becoming a long saga, that of the Pixel Notepad. According to sources from The Elec, no foldable phone from Google will appear this year. This would have put the project on hold for the second time. According to the latest information, the product currently does not meet Google’s expectations, but nothing more is known about it.

In February of 2021, the first information about Google’s plans for a foldable phone appeared. In November it became known that the project was canceled for the first time because the recommended price of the phone would be too high and Google therefore had no confidence in the product.

Google then went back to the drawing board, according to sources, to bring a more affordable foldable to the market and the name ‘Pixel Notepad’ was dropped. Another source could confirm that Google has already ordered folding screens for the smartphone and a launch in the fall seemed logical.

Silence on Google I/O

During Google I/O, Google showed numerous product teasers and the Pixel 7, an unknown tablet and even AR glasses were on display. What was missing? The Pixel Notepad, but we also didn’t get any information about Google’s upcoming Nest Hub with detachable screen.

A launch of a first foldable phone this fall also seemed a very logical move for Google with the arrival of Android 13. That update is also planned for this fall and the company will roll out a lot of interface improvements for foldable phones and tablets. The company of CEO Sundar Pichai will therefore have to explain the improvements in the first place with the help of his new tablet. But before we jump to conclusions, let’s wait for more different sources to confirm that the Pixel Notepad really isn’t coming.
