Alternative payment methods in Play Store
In Europe, changes will be made around paying in the Google Play Store. It will be possible for developers to use their own payment system. The change is specific to the countries in the EEA, which means the European Union, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. With this, Google has already introduced a measure before the legislation of the European Commission takes effect. The law states that large tech companies must open their platforms more widely, in order to improve competition.
Game developers already had the option to implement their own payment method. From now on, that will be possible for every developer. Developers are required to offer Google’s own payment platform, but they can also offer their own platform in addition. For this, the commission that must be paid to Google decreases from 15 to 12 percent.
