Google Pixel tablet can replace Google Nest Hub via Google Dock

Google’s Pixel tablet could be a replacement for the Nest Hub. Google itself has only lifted a corner of the veil by showing us what the Pixel tablet will look like, but otherwise the upcoming tablet is still a big question mark. Fortunately, there are researchers who occasionally spot something in the code of the device.

Pixel tablet

A report from 9to5Google states that the tablet may be connected to something called the Google Dock. It sounds like the device works much like the Nintendo Switch, where it can be used on the television when it’s docked. Now Pixel cannot be used on the television (probably), but it will probably turn into a kind of Google Nest Hub with which you can conveniently control your smartphone. In addition, the dock could potentially serve as a speaker right away.

For some, it still takes a little getting used to that Google is coming back with an Android tablet, but on the other hand, tablets have grown in popularity again in recent years. Plus, the Pixel tablet’s pogo pins could even plug into that dock, acting as more than just a tablet. It is also immediately a way to control your smarthome, as you may now do via the Nest Hub.

Nest Hub replacement

That’s all speculation though, as all that’s seen in the code is ‘Google Dock’. It implies that there will indeed be some kind of system that will both power the tablet and switch to another mode, but that is not 100 percent certain. At the same time, Google is said to be working on a Nest Hub that could have a ‘dockable tablet’, where the screen could detach from the base. In short, it is clear that there will be some form of a Google Dock.

The code also hints at the arrival of support for the Nest Hub’s ‘scan’ feature, which will allow the device to detect your presence via ultrasound and light it up for easy reference. This feature would also be made within Android so that Pixel tablet can also use this kind of ultrasound to be able to detect your presence.

Exciting new tidbits about the tablet, although we have yet to see if this actually comes to the Pixel tablet.

Are you currently using a Nest Hub? How do you like that? Leave it in the comments.
