Google Pixel phones receive stable Android 12 update

Pixel devices have now received the stable update to Android 12. With Android 12, a large package of features is available. Those coming from the latest beta version only need to install a small update of less than 100 MB.

Pixels and Android 12

Google launched the stable version of Android 12 two weeks ago. Although ‘launch’ is a big word, because no device has run on the stable version of Android 12 until now. Google’s own Pixel phones should be patient for a few more weeks, but that is now coming to an end.

During its launch event for the Pixel 6, Google announced that the stable version is currently rolling out to Pixels. It is now available on the Google Pixel 3 series, Pixel 3a series, Pixel 4 series, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. We have already received the update from the editors. Our devices come from the fifth beta version and it takes less than 100 MB each time. The update is normally installed in the background, but you can also manually check for update. You do that from Settings > System > System Updates.

New in Android 12

Android 12 was introduced this month and it comes with the new Material You theme that changes the colors of your interface according to the colors used in your wallpaper. You also get more control over your own privacy in the new privacy dashboard. There are also indicators on the screen that show when the camera or microphone is being used by an app. We discuss all the novelties in our announcement article about Android 12. When will my phone get Android 12?

The Pixel devices are therefore the first Android phones to receive Android 12. From now on it is the turn of other manufacturers of Android phones to provide their devices with the latest version. According to Google, the update will be available first on phones from Samsung, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Vivo and Xiaomi. We already know from Samsung that the update will appear on the S21 series in the fourth quarter of 2021. The OPPO Find X3 Pro will also receive its Android 12 update in December 2021.
