Google Pixel Fold doesn’t come in the end. At least not in the first half of next year

Folding Google Pixel Fold most likely we will not see, informs portal displaysupplychain.com. This and a similar model will certainly not be introduced in 2021 or in the first half of next year. Sources say the main reason is that the product would not be competitive enough.

In Europe and the USA, Samsung, South Korea, has a very strong presence in folding models. Although it is not so strong in the world’s largest market, China, the folding smartphones are expected to come from large manufacturers such as Opppo, Vivo, Huawei, Honor, Xiaomi and the like. It would also not be easy to compete with them in China.

The mention of Pixel Fold appeared in the Android 12L code

Already last year, the first news about the development of Google’s folding smartphone appeared under the code name “Passport”. The device was originally scheduled to hit the market before the end of 2021. Many people therefore expected it to be unveiled along with the introduction of the new Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro smartphones. As we already know, this did not happen.

This modified version of the Android 12 system is designed for large displays and therefore also folding smartphones.

Google’s folding smartphone cameras may be disappointing to anyone

9to5Google also revealed which sensors will use Pixel Fold cameras. The rear camera should have two sensors – a primary IMX363 sensor with a resolution of 12.2 megapixels and an ultra-wide IMX386 sensor with a resolution of 12 megapixels. Compared to the new Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro smartphones, this is a big step back.

The smartphone should also have two selfie cameras. One external and the other internal for video calls using a flexible display. In both cases, it will use an 8-megapixel IMX355 sensor. It is not yet clear whether it will be placed in the hole of the display or hidden under the display, as we can see in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G smartphone.

Recent reports suggest that Google may be joining the Pixel Fold device soon. The Gizchin portal informed about the news.

Pixel Fold was code-named Passport

Google recently released the latest beta version of the new Android 12. In the Google Camera app, which is available in this version of the system, developers have found four codenames for new devices – Oriole, Raven, Passport, Slider. Oriole and Raven correspond to the equipment from the Pixel 6 series, which will be released this autumn.

Other reports claim that Google could introduce this model in the fall of this year along with the Pixel 6 series. It appears to be powered by a new chipset from Google and will have the same cameras as the Pixel 6. This suggests that Pixel Fold will bring top cameras to the world of smartphones.
