Google Pixel 8: the phone that will revolutionize photography?
As the arrival of the Pixel 8 and its Pro version is fast approaching, in October 2023, the characteristics of Google’s future smartphone are gradually being revealed. Highlight of the range, photography should once again benefit from major improvements for this new model.
Since its launch, Google’s Pixel series has been based on several strengths: quality of components, integration of the most advanced version of Android, unique features… But the spearhead of the smartphone remains above all the photo. A skilful mix of high-end components mixed with cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence, for a package that convinces users with each new model.
Hardware and software upgrade
To support the rise of the photo module of its Pixel 8 and its Pro version, Google has invested in new hardware. Thus, the future Californian smartphone should carry a GN2 sensor (the Pixel 7 had a GN1) as well as the latest version of the SoC Tensor. A hardware alliance reinforced by the IMX787 – 64 megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, designed by Sony. This set seems to go hand in hand with a global update for the AI embedded in the smartphone’s photo module.
An even more powerful photo module
The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro camera will therefore increase in power. In terms of performance, this seems to lead to better light capture as well as an HDR+ mode allowing video at 8k and 30 FPS. While real interest in 8k remains unresolved, it’s still powerful. According Android Authority, the Pixel 8 will probably also carry an Adaptive Torch. This is a flash that seems to adapt to the need for brightness when capturing a photo.
