Google: No more free unlimited storage from today
As of today, things are going to change at Google. The company no longer gives you unlimited storage for your Google Photos. We list the details.
No free unlimited storage
Today is June 1. That means, starting today, Google will stop giving out free unlimited storage for your photos and videos. Until today, users of Android devices could save their photos in high quality, without losing the storage space in the Google account. That is no longer the case. It was already deducted from your storage space if you saved photos and videos in original quality to your account.
As of today, all photos that you save in Google Photos (also with the backup function) will automatically be removed from your online storage space. By default, Google gives you 15GB of free storage space per account. Files in Google Drive also go from here, as does your Gmail inbox with all its attachments. Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and the like that you created before June 1, 2021, and not edited after that day, will not take off your storage space. The same goes for files shared with you via Google Drive.
If that 15GB is not enough, you can sign up for Google One. You take out storage space for one year. For 19.99 euros per year you get 100GB, for 29.99 euros per year 200GB, 99.99 euros per year 2TB and for 49.99 euros per month you get 10TB at your disposal. You also get benefits like more Google Photos editing tools and other benefits. Google has put a special webpage online with which you can see how much storage space you have left, and approximately how long you will be able to use it (based on current usage).
The change does not apply to those using a Google Pixel. High-quality photos and videos uploaded before June 1 will not count towards your Google Account storage space.
