Google Maps gets improved maps: first Amsterdam and Brussels

Google has quietly started improving its maps in cities. We see improvements in the map view, with cleaner views and also with some features. First up is Amsterdam.

Improved cities in Google Maps

Google Maps is an incredibly useful tool, and this tool is now made even better by Google. Several European cities have now been updated with map display improvements, according to a DroidApp inventory. We have discovered that the improvements have also been rolled out for one Dutch city. This is the case for Amsterdam. These improvements have also been rolled out in several other European countries, such as in Germany, but also in France, Spain, Sweden and Denmark, among others, we discover.

The new map material ensures that the display is much better. Roads are no longer sloppy straight, but more realistically drawn. This manifests itself, for example, in a sidewalk, which does not have to be drawn 90 degrees, but therefore continues more realistically. Important details such as road separations have also been drawn. A footpath or zebra place is also shown in the new map view. Traffic lights have been shown for some time. Stairs can also be shown at parks.

It is expected that several Dutch cities will follow after Amsterdam. We are already seeing the functionality in Brussels and more cities will follow in Belgium and other European countries.
