Google makes it possible to translate in real time, even with your mouth full

The Google Pixel 6 series has several improvements regarding translation. The devices must, among other things, make it possible to translate in real-time in various ways. This opens up a whole new world, according to Google. Also for us…

Real-time translation

Google has managed to combine ‘real-time translation models’ with ‘speech recognition models’ through many AI tricks and machine learning from its own Tensor chip. This feature has been implemented by Google in multiple applications and the collection of this is brought together by Google under the name ‘Live Translate’. It offers instant translation when you type, various language detection functions and improved speech recognition.

With ‘Live Translate’, for example, it becomes possible to have conversations and immediately translate them live. This should again make it possible to hear YouTube videos in your own language, listen to a foreign podcast or have live interviews with someone who speaks another language.

Talk, eat and translate quickly

According to Google, using your voice should bring even more benefits. For example, sending your messages by voice should be three times faster than typing. The new speech recognition models should take care of this. For example, the Pixels should respond better to commands. As with the word “send,” with this word, the Pixel sends your message instead of putting the word in the message. Something that still happens now and then.

Furthermore, Google Translate is integrated into Google Chat. This will ensure, among other things, that messages in another language are immediately detected and translated. So you no longer have to copy and paste your text into Google Translate. Incidentally, this detection takes place on the Pixel 6 (Pro) itself, and therefore does not go through the Google Cloud. According to Google, translations and other data never leave the device. This also ensures that the function can also be used offline. The Google Translate integration should also become available for WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter.

Finally, Google should now be able to understand you well even if you have your mouth full. So you can just eat a delicious cookie and talk at the same time, delicious!

Also in our beautiful language

‘Live Translate’ currently supports 48 languages, including Dutch. We are very curious to see how good the feature will be and whether it really works out as well in practice as Google claims. The review of the Google Pixel 6 Pro will have to show that!
