Google is working on app archiving function for Android
Android can expect a new function in the future, as is clear from new reports. Google Play Services will be expanded with a function that allows you to archive apps. It should be a handy addition, to save memory.
Archive function for Android
On Twitter, AssembleDebug reports a new feature that is coming for Android. The new option should make it possible to archive apps. The option can be seen working with the Twitter user who brought the new feature to the attention. The option is offered when uninstalling an application, via the Google Play Store. Instead of deleting an app, the ‘archive’ option suddenly appears. But what can you do with this?
Google previously announced the feature, but it remained silent after that. Thanks to the Twitter user, we now also see the functionality in operation. When deleting, all data such as the app data will be deleted. When archiving, the application itself is deleted, but the app data with, for example, account information and the like, remains on the device. This information is stored as a separate app on the device, as it were. Google stores a small, modified APK file. The icon remains in the menu, albeit in a different form. When the icon is tapped, the full app is installed again on the smartphone (or other Android device)
It is unknown when Google will make the functionality widely available in Android.
