Google is finally making apps better

Google wants to make apps more useful on Android tablets. The first results of the efforts can now be seen. Soon, a total of 20 apps on tablets should cut a better figure, including some from third-party providers such as TikTok, Facebook and Zoom.

For tablets: Google improves Android apps

With Android 12L, Google released an adapted version of the operating system in the spring, which is specifically aimed at devices with a larger screen. Now it’s the turn of the apps themselves, which Google will be doing in the near future specifically for use on Android tablets adapt and noticeably improve. Google Workspace apps like Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Keep are the first.

The customized apps include one better split screen mode, which better exploits the advantages of large displays. Also new is the option, for example, to move an image from an app on the left to one on the right. In addition, text can be marked in the mobile browser and moved directly into an open document.

That moving content also works with Google Drive. Images or documents can simply be dragged into the app to upload and save. Drive is now also available in two windows at the same time.

Another optimization concerns keyboards connected to Android tablets. Many Google apps now fully support it known keyboard shortcuts such as select, cut, copy, paste, undo and redo (source: Google).
