Google half fixes the broken Google Photos feature

Something is wrong with the Android users, but the broken Google Photos function is now kind of fixed.

Google has finally enabled an important Google Photos feature that the Android app has been missing for years. However, the fix still needs work and it is far from perfect. Yet it is a step in the right direction.

Broken Google Photos feature

Until recently, Android users, and only Android users, had to jump through hoops to delete a photo. This while viewing it from a Google photo album. According to a report from Android Police, Google has now released an update that partially fixes the problem. Prior to this update, Android users had to search the main feed for any photo they want to delete and move them to the trash instead.

So Google recognizes that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. That’s why the company has provided a new ‘move to trash’ option for Android users. This can be accessed via the ‘three dots’ menu at the top right when viewing a photo. Weird, actually, because this option has been available for iOS and web versions of Google Photos for years.

Limited solution

Not everything is now resolved. It is in fact limited to private albums. So if you want to remove a photo from a shared album, you still have to do it the old way. So the broken Google Photos feature isn’t quite fixed. There is no such limitation for iOS and web users. It’s unclear why Google hasn’t fully straightened out the functionality with the iOS version. But with luck, Google will fix the second part of this issue in a future update.
