Google Duo and Google Meet will be permanently merged

Google doesn’t always seem to know what it wants when it comes to software. Now it’s time for the next step; Google Duo and Google Meet will be merged.

Google Duo and Meet go together

Sometimes it is not quite possible to draw a arrow from how Google deals with software services. Do you remember Google Allo, for example? It is one of several test balloons that Google has released. Now there’s news about Google Duo and Google Meet.

The two services Meet and Duo will be merged. The change will be implemented later this year and all of Google Meet’s special features will be carried over to Duo. It should result in a complete service in one app.

Google says the following about the move;

“Over the next few weeks, we’ll be adding all of the Google Meet features to the Duo app, so users can easily schedule a video meeting at a time that’s convenient for everyone, or continue to use video calling to connect with an individual or group instantly.

Later this year, we will be renaming the Duo app to Google Meet, our only video communication service on Google available to everyone for free.”
