Google Chrome: A new tool to remove your shameful searches

Quick Delete for peace of mind

Some web searches better stay hidden. We have all had the experience of asking ourselves a more or less shameful question and not wanting to assume that we asked Google. Do not panic, the Mountain View firm has thought of you.

Currently in development, the feature Quick Delete will allow you to delete the last 15 minutes of searches in one click, directly from the browser settings. The tool will be accessible on the Chrome Android application.

No date announced for the arrival of the option; however, better not be impatient. Google had indicated it for Android 12 during its I/O conference in 2021. The latest information rather seems to indicate integration into the final version of Android 14, expected at the end of 2023.

A duplicate with private browsing?

The question might arise, what is the difference with private browsing? Even if it does not guarantee total anonymity on the webthis browser feature still does not save searches.

It seems that Google wants to roll out Quick Delete in an effort to cater to mindless users. For now, if you’re doing an embarrassing search without private browsing, you have to follow a slightly longer procedure to make it disappear:

  • Since the Settings of the browser
  • Go toHistorical
  • Select the request to delete
  • Click on the garbage can top right

Google Chrome: your data is not really deleted

Does search suppression or private browsing guarantee your anonymity? Well, as so often when it comes to Google, the answer is no. Indeed, the Chrome browser stores all your searches and does not prevent the operation of cookies, even in private browsing.

So we repeat: other browsers exist, much more respectful of your data and your privacy! If you don’t know which one to choose, here are a few: Brave, Firefox Focus or DuckDuckGo, solutions designed to not let your searches constitute an online consumer profile.

Finally, if you want to erase your tracks not on a browser but on ALL the Internet, and in particular all the files of the data brokers, know that a new application called Incogni offers a service that will do this dirty work for you, the service is inexpensive and above all you can test it for thirty days and get a full refund if you are not convinced.
