Google changes the most popular gesture
In Android 14 there will be an adjustment to the back gesture. From now on you will be able to see it when you threaten to go back so far that you get to the start screen. The start screen will then appear for a bit.
Android 14 back gesture
This week, Google is holding the Android Developer Summit and we’re already hearing an interesting fact about Android 14. Google reveals that “back” is the most popular gesture in Android, but users sometimes leave apps unwillingly. ‘Falsing’ is what Google calls the phenomenon. Users don’t realize that they end up on the home screen with the next back gesture, so Google has developed a handy indicator that can be seen in Android 14: the so-called ‘predicive back gesture’
As soon as you reach the home screen with the next gesture, you will see a preview of the home screen from the first moment you swipe from right to left on the screen. This way you can stop the ‘predictive back gesture’ in time, so you don’t have to leave the app. You can see it in Google’s presentation in the video below.
Google states that the system can also be used in apps if developers make an adjustment in their code. For example, if you read an email in Gmail, you would see a preview of the overview of your mailbox with the back gesture.
More Android 14 news
Currently in Android 13 only a simple arrow appears when you use the back gesture. Next year we can already expect a better version of this gesture in Android 14. Google has previously announced that Android 14 will support satellite connection for phones. The code name for Android 14 is also known. What do you think of the improved gesture?
