Skating on natural ice: check it with this app

Now that many skating rinks are still closed, more and more skating enthusiasts are looking for the natural ice. If it has been frozen long enough, it is a safe alternative, provided you know where you should and shouldn’t be.

The Ice Master app comes in handy here. The free iOS application looks based on your location where the nearest natural ice is located. An enthusiastic group of users reports themselves when they encounter skatable ice.

The number of reports is critically examined. For example, a frozen pool of water will get a red icon with a few notifications. Then it is still advisable to be very careful on the ice. As soon as the number of reports about the same location increases, the color will eventually change to a green icon.

Because so many reports have been received at that location, it is a lot more certain that the ice there is thick enough to skate safely.

Report natural ice yourself via the app

Of course you can also report yourself if you come across natural ice. With the push of a button, you send a message and a pin is placed on the map. You can add the name of the location, indicate how thick the ice is in centimeters and what kind of ice it is.

For example, you are standing at a lake, flooded meadow or fen. Finally, you can add a description with additional information. This is handy, because you can always see whether people think the ice is safe enough or not. The Skating Master app can be downloaded for free in the App Store via the link below.
