Google accidentally transfers $250,000 to hackers
American Sam Curry received a mysterious payment of around $250,000 from Google in August 2022. After unsuccessful contact attempts, the self-proclaimed hacker has now attracted attention via Twitter with the case. According to Google, it was an accident.
Sam Curry must have been amazed when he received a payment of around 250,000 US dollars from the US company Google in August 2022. Like the news channel NPR reportedthe self-proclaimed hacker and bug county hunter was unable to connect to the transfer.
According to his own statements, Curry made some attempts to contact him, but received no answer. He kept the money again – in case Google wanted to get in touch and have it back.
Hacker accidentally receives $250,000
Since Curry apparently didn’t know what else to do, he then made the case public on Twitter. He tweeted the case again, saying he still hadn’t received a response three weeks after making the payment. He also pointed out a support ticket.
He also linked the US group’s Twitter account and asked for a way to get in touch. Opposite to NPR the hacker stated that he occasionally detects security gaps for companies like Google, but that there was no connection to the payment.

Google reacts and confirms mistake
Sam Curry now wants to keep the money. However, in the event that Google took too long to report back, he would have to transfer it to another account to avoid paying taxes. He suspected that the transfer was a mistake.
And he was right, because Google responded to a request from shortly after the tweet was published NPR. A company spokesman said:
Our team recently made a payment to the wrong party due to human error. We appreciate that the affected partner was quick to let us know and we are working to correct this.
The US group also intends to get the money back. Sam Curry, on the other hand, wonders how often this happens and what systems the company uses to detect similar errors.
