Many users have reported that Google accidentally deposited money into their account, ranging from $10 to $1,000. Mishaal Rahman, who is well known for his discoveries on new versions of Android, was affected by the bug, and shared his experience on social networks.

The Android specialist said he had received a $46 “reward” from Google, accompanied by a message explaining that it was a “dogfooding of the Google Pay Remittance experiment”. Dogfooding refers to a process in which employees test a beta version of software provided by their company, and receive monetary compensation for their participation. The goal is often to identify bugs and issues before they are discovered by customers, allowing companies to fix them faster.

Google Pay users get money for free

What is understood is that this money was normally intended for Google employees, but some lucky users received some of it. Several Reddit users have also reported receiving strange cashback credits after using Google Pay for their purchases.

An Internet user would have received 20 dollars in cashback after buying a snack and a drink for a few dollars. Another racked up nearly $100 in six different cashback rewards. This is not the first time that Google has made such a mistake, since the company had also refunded certain Stadia subscriptions by mistake.

Unfortunately, all of this was too good to be true, Google has returned to this erroneous distribution of gifts. The company is now sending emails to the beneficiaries of its blunder informing them that the money was deposited in error and has now been deducted from their account. However, Google notes ” If we have not been able to cancel the credit, the money remains at your disposal which means that some users may have been able to keep the sum, where have already spent it before the chargeback.
