Goaly puts goals in your Google Calendar

Setting goals in Google is possible, we have already explained that in detail. However, it is not always easy to get rid of those goals. Moreover, Google has since stopped using Goals. Good news: there is an alternative. This week in App of the Week we discuss that alternative: Goaly.

Goaly

It is an extra app on your phone, but Goaly is really very handy and simple. You open the app, you choose to set a new goal and you can choose from a number of preset goals, such as sports goals, but it is also possible to write one yourself. I do recommend the latter: it is an English-language app, so unless you want to see English-language goals in your -probably- further Dutch-language agenda, then you better be creative with words yourself.

You type in which goal you want to set, you give it a color and you choose how often this goal should recur per week. You can also choose to receive a push notification when it’s time to work on your goal. The app automatically puts a few moments in your week in your Google Calendar (after you choose whether you want the goal in the morning, afternoon, evening or randomly) and it’s done. The moments to work on your goal are always scheduled at times when you have nothing in your agenda, so that you actually have time for it.

It is therefore necessary to link your Google account to Goaly, but if you are already logged in to your Google account on your phone, you can do this within one click of a button. What is a small disadvantage is the design of Goaly: it may be very simple, it is not Material You-like and that is a pity, because you see a difference with other apps. However, this seems to be coming to the app in the future.

The good thing is that every goal in the Google Calendar has a ‘Did it’ button that lets you indicate that you’ve done the goal for that day. It is not possible to look back at the moment what you have completed, because that is still in development, but that does not matter. It is mainly about moving forward in your goal, instead of looking back. That’s why Goaly is App of the Week: this app is very simple, but can be extremely meaningful in your life. Of course you can also put something in your agenda yourself, but setting something specifically as a goal and being able to indicate that you have done it is just a level higher than that. Good luck!
