Gmail rolls out new Material You widget to Android

In recent times, Google has put a lot of work into Gmail’s Android app. Now it’s time for the next step; Gmail is getting a completely new Material You widget. What exactly can you do with it?

A new feature is being added to Gmail. The widget of the e-mail service is being given a new look. Thanks to the new Material You jacket, the colors in the interface are adapted to those of the background. It is a handy feature of Android 12. If your device runs on an earlier version, for example Android 11, the widget has also been updated.

The new widget from Google gives you the incoming messages at a glance. A distinction is also made between read and unread messages. You can archive an email directly from the button behind the email. You can resize the widget to your liking; with a wide widget you also get the option to show more buttons; such as opening a Google Chat or Meet room, if these options are enabled.

The update will be rolled out in phases from now on via the Google Play Store.
