Geoguessr tests your geographic knowledge and lets you explore new areas in Google Maps. You have to use a randomly selected image from Google Street View to identify where you are.
How to play the google maps game
How Geoguessr works:
- Geoguessr lets both in the browser as well as via app on the smartphone (Android & iOS) or tablet. On the computer you can use the Google Maps game in a free version. All you need is an account.
- At the beginning you will be guided through the game in the tutorial. You will be shown easily recognizable places in the world, for example the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
- You can see a map on the bottom right. Click here on the spot where you suspect the location shown.
- It is then indicated in kilometers how close your tip is to the actual location. The closer you are, the more points you get.
If you click on the picture with the mouse and drag the mouse pointer over the screen, you can move. You can use the arrows to move as usual from Street View. You should use this function to orientate yourself. You can usually find your way around better using the inscriptions on buildings or vehicles, for example if you discover Cyrillic letters or Spanish words on house walls. If you see a lot of pixelated houses, there is a high probability that you are in Germany or Austria.
Geoguessr: Location game for Google Maps and Street View
After the introduction, you can start the real game in different modes. For example, you can let yourself be guided to well-known sights or major cities. You can also start game rounds against friends. In addition to the points you get per round, you unlock different levels where you get a virtual badge.
In the free version you can start a guessing round every 15 minutes with a maximum playing time of 5 minutes. The costs for a “Pro” account are 2.99 euros per month. If you book the Google Maps game for a whole year, you pay 23.88 euros and thus arithmetically 1.99 euros per month.
You can pay by credit card and PayPal. The Pro version offers you, among other things, unlimited playing time, over 40,000 cards, no advertising and waiting times, and access to many different game modes. With paid access, you can also create your own maps.
