Galaxy S10 5G: Samsung stops monthly updates

Bad news for those using the Galaxy S10 5G, Samsung announcement no longer offer monthly updates. The smartphone will now be entitled to quarterly updates, four per year against 12 so far.

The Galaxy S10 5G launched alongside the other Galaxy S10s at the start of 2019, but the device kept up the pace of monthly updates for a bit longer than the rest of the lineup. Only now, starting this week, Samsung is downgrading the 5G model on a quarterly basis. The latest update was offered in May. The next should therefore not arrive before September. Note also that the smartphone will not be entitled to Android 13, it will remain on Android 12.

Samsung has also made changes for its other models. The Galaxy M13 is also moving to quarterly updates. For their part, the Galaxy A41, Galaxy A51 5G and Galaxy M01 now have the right to two updates per year. As for the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy J7 Duo, Samsung is abandoning them completely, they will no longer be entitled to updates.

As a reminder, Samsung announced in 2019 to offer four years of security updates for its smartphones. In 2021, it has increased to five years, but only on the brand’s top-of-the-range models.
