Future James Bond movies gives us good news
After No Time to Die, a lot will change for the James Bond films. Fortunately, one thing remains the same.
Finally, the time has come: the James Bond sensation of 2020 can be seen in cinemas next week. And no, that year is not a typo. The latest film No Time to Die was supposed to be shown in early 2020, but the party was canceled due to the advance of COVID-19. The November 2020 rematch was also canceled and so it is almost a year and a half later that the film finally appears on the silver screen.
Future
News about the film itself is therefore automatically old news: production was more or less completely over in early 2020. No, there is news about the world after No Time to Die. Because in the meantime things have changed. Not least the fact that the studio behind the James Bond films, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, has been acquired by Amazon.
Fear
There was some fear for fans of the James Bond films. Amazon was already very well known and is now becoming more and more famous in the Netherlands for their Netflix alternative, Prime Video. You can already feel the mood if you think logically: Amazon will use Prime as the platform for many MGM films, including James Bond. That in addition to the fact that ‘the cinema’ may well be a thing of the past.
James Bond movies stay
Luckily there’s Barbara Broccoli, the producer of pretty much all James Bond movies since the 90s. She told Deadline, among others, that the acquisition by Amazon does not put the Bond films in the danger zone. “James Bond will remain a theatrical film in the future.” So don’t worry if you are an avid lover of popcorn and (too) expensive cola in a luxury lounger.
No Time to Die will be in cinemas from next week, of course with Daniel Craig in the lead role. For the last time, by the way. Craig is going to call it quits after this movie. It is not yet known who will be his successor.
