Future iPhones will warn about cracks in the screen

It’s every Apple lover’s nightmare: cracks in the screen of your iPhone. Future models may warn users if there is a small crack in the display. This way you can take action before the problem gets worse.

‘Soon warning for cracks in iPhone screen’

You can of course see major damage immediately, but small cracks in the screen of your iPhone may be less noticeable. And that while such a crack can very quickly become a crack. The website AppleInsider discovered that Apple has filed a patent to solve this problem.

Future iPhones may have a ‘crack detection sensor’ on the edge of the screen. It measures the resistance of the display. If it deviates from what is normal, that could indicate a crack.

Presumably, the user will then see a message that something is wrong with the screen. You can then choose to have the display replaced or, for example, to (temporarily) apply a glass screen protector.

Even with significant damage, many users continue to use their iPhone. This system could warn of the danger thereof. Although the smartphone may still function, it is no longer waterproof anyway.

Also, by continuing to apply pressure to the screen of your iPhone, you run the risk of the cracks getting bigger and bigger. In the worst case, you could get hurt by the sharp edges of the glass.

Result for a foldable iPhone?

With your current iPhone, the risk of cracks in the screen is especially great if you drop it. However, Apple is rumored to release a foldable iPhone in 2023. It has to compete with phones like the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2.

Because you open and close such a device many times a day, you run into damage much sooner. Perhaps this patent is mainly intended for such a futuristic new iPhone.
