for what would we do without them?

They are always ready to look after your children and give you the very best advice if you need it. We are grateful for all grandfathers and grandmothers and we would like to put them in the spotlight. Namely on National Grandpa and Grandma Day on the fourth of June.

Grandfathers and grandmothers are indispensable in many families. Research shows that one third of all grandparents in the Netherlands babysit their grandchildren at least once a week.

Origin

National Grandpa and Grandma Day is originally from America. The holiday was first celebrated in 1978. In the Netherlands this day has existed since 2004, but it is still relatively unknown. Especially compared to Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. The day is meant to spoil the grandparents. The roles are therefore reversed: the grandfathers and grandmothers are put in the spotlight for everything they do for their children and grandchildren.

Holiday Auctions

Auction platform VakantieVeilingen is responding to this day when grandparents spend more time with their grandchildren. That’s why you can bid on their site this week on various days out, where your grandpa and grandma can join for free. If you bid and if you win 1 of the selected days out before June 5, you will receive 2 extra tickets. And it doesn’t stop there, because the search for the Golden Oldie has started. VakantieVeilingen is looking for the favorite grandparents in the Netherlands. The grandmother who is always ready when you call, the grandfather who always wants to help with a technical job at home or the grandparents who tell the best stories together. The winning Oldie enjoys a 9-course dinner, overnight stay and breakfast at a Michelin star restaurant. You can nominate before the 4th of June.
