For these 5 reasons you better wait for the iPhone 14

The iPhone 13 and 13 Pro are now almost half on the market. That means that the release of the iPhone 14 is slowly but surely getting closer. Should you buy an iPhone 13 today or should you wait a little longer?

Read on after the ad.

Buy an iPhone 13 now or wait for the iPhone 14?

The iPhone 13 and 13 Pro are fantastic smartphones. They have a beautiful design, a super-fast chip, beautiful screens and excellent cameras. Every year, however, Apple comes up with a new model – and the iPhone 13 series is now almost 6 months old.

Is the iPhone 13 worth it, or is it smarter to be patient for the iPhone 14? We think it might be wise to wait a little longer. In this article you can read why. At the end, however, we give one more reason to strike anyway. So please read until the end.

1. Controversial Notch Disappears

The iPhone has had a notch since 2017. This is the screen notch at the top of the screen, in which Apple has concealed the selfie camera and Face ID sensors. The notch of the iPhone 13 series is already slightly smaller than the screen notches of previous iPhones, but that does not help much. It’s time for Apple to say goodbye to the screen snack.

The manufacturer seems to be feeling the pressure itself, because according to the rumors, the iPhone 14 Pro no longer has a notch. The regular iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Max – the mini version disappears – will still have a screen notch. Exactly what the Pro models will look like without a notch is still up for debate.

Several sources state that Apple for a so-called hole punchdesign chooses. This is a hole in the screen for the selfie camera. Sounds familiar, huh? That’s because many Android smartphones have had a similar design for years. However, Apple seems to want to do things differently.

Because the iPhone 14 Pro also has important sensors for Face ID on board in addition to a selfie camera, one hole in the screen is probably not enough. That is why the device is said to have two holes in the screen. This may look a little crazy, but it’s actually quite clever. In this way, the iPhone remains easily recognizable and the device does not disappear in an ocean of similar Android devices.

2. Battery life improves significantly

The biggest power hog in the iPhone 13 remains the 5G modem. That is annoying, since 5G is one of the reasons that you can surf the internet so fast with the iPhone 13. According to the rumors, the iPhone 14 will receive a modem chip that is no longer made by Samsung, but by chip manufacturer TSMC. This new chip will remedy the drawbacks of previous 5G modems.

As a result, the battery of the iPhone 14 is expected to last considerably longer. The new chip will be no less than a third smaller. As a result, it consumes less energy and there is more room for a larger battery. As icing on the cake, the new chip also supports the faster WiFi 6E. This is again a bit faster than the WiFi 6 of the iPhone 13.

We don’t know yet whether the battery actually grows. However, Apple’s current iPhone 13 series already has fantastic battery life. The iPhone 13 Pro Max lasts for two days with normal use. Although a larger battery in the iPhone 14 is always welcome, a more energy-efficient chip is also fantastic.

3. Titanium housing

The iPhone 14 Pro is said to be the first iPhone ever to have a titanium housing. This metal is even harder than the stainless steel we know from the current iPhone 13 Pro. In addition, titanium is lighter and more scratch-resistant than stainless steel. Apple has already made products from titanium before. For example, there was an Apple Watch made of sturdy metal and the Apple Card – Apple’s credit card, which is not yet available in the Netherlands – is also made of titanium.

Titanium does not only offer advantages, however. The main drawback is the price. Titanium is scarcer and therefore more expensive than stainless steel. It would be a shame if the price of the iPhone 14 Pro goes up again thanks to the choice of materials. With its 1159 euros, the iPhone 13 Pro is already quite pricey.

4. Better cameras

The iPhone’s camera has had a resolution of 12 megapixels since 2015. Contrary to popular belief, the number of megapixels does not necessarily say anything about the photo quality. The higher the number of megapixels, the higher the resolution. In most cases, that means the sensor can capture more detail – but there’s a catch. The more megapixels you cram into a sensor, the smaller each pixel is. As a result, the pixels let in less light and details are lost.

According to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 14 will get a huge megapixel boost. The sensor would have a resolution of no less than 48 megapixels. However, that does not mean that the device will actually take 48 megapixel photos. According to Kuo, Apple uses pixel binning-technology. Several small pixels together form one larger pixel.

Not only is taking pictures better with the new camera lens. The iPhone 14 Pro also supports 8K video recording, Kuo said. These 8K videos can therefore be viewed on Apple’s VR headset, which should also appear in 2022. Furthermore, you have little to 8K footage. The resolution is probably higher than the screens you use. Well, it sure is cool.

5. Faster processor and more RAM

Like every year, Apple gives the iPhone 14 series faster chips. That’s always nice, of course. The A15 chip in the iPhone 13 is already a speed monster and even the iPhone 12 can handle the toughest tasks just fine. However, the chip itself is not the only one must have for a fast working smartphone. The working memory – also called RAM – is crucial.

According to a recent rumor, the next Pro iPhones will have no less than 8 GB of RAM. This is more than ever. The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have 6 GB of RAM and run like a charm. The more RAM, the more demanding tasks an iPhone can handle. It is certainly more than welcome for the Pro users!

But… you can’t keep waiting forever

It remains an eternal dilemma: when have you waited enough? The moment you buy a new iPhone, it is already outdated. That is the hard, painful truth. It is therefore not wise to think about the next generation of a product every time. Yes, the next iPhone will be better again. But the iPhone that comes after will be even better. And so it goes on.
