For Sweden with a “tattoo” at the ESC 2023

Loreen will again take part in the Eurovision Song Contest and will represent Sweden with the song “Tattoo”. But why are fans around the world looking forward to their return?

Loreen is a well-known singer from Sweden, who is best known internationally for her participation in the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2012. With her unique style, which combines pop, electro and dance, she already won the competition in 2012 with her song “Euphoria”, which also became a huge hit and reached the top of the charts in many European countries. No other song at this year’s ESC was so eagerly awaited as Loreen’s new contribution, which is intended to bring the event back to Sweden after Måns Zelmerlöw’s last win in 2015. We tell you more about the Swedish artist.

The song that made Loreen internationally famous: In the video you can see her performance of “Euphoria” at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012.

Loreen’s way to the ESC 2023 in Liverpool

Loreen stayed true to her artistic approach to the song. “Tattoo” is a dark dance-pop track about love that sometimes doesn’t come at the right time, yet is held on despite the pain that comes with it. The contribution was written by the same team that was responsible for the winning title “Euphoria”, including Loreen herself. In order to be allowed to start again for Sweden, she defeated a total of 28 other participants and thus bought the ticket for Liverpool – and that despite her appearance in the preliminary round of the Melodifestivalen canceled due to an air conditioner and had to be repeated. Despite the incident, Loreen was able to qualify directly for the final of the Swedish preliminary round and later won it by a wide margin.

Loreen: Big favorite to win

In advance, Loreen and her song “Tattoo” were considered the big favorite for the preliminary round by experts and betting shops as well as by many ESC fans. Internationally, betting shops already considered Sweden among the top 5 as the most promising candidate for the ESC title – even before Loreen’s victory was even certain. After the win, Sweden slipped straight to first place. Whether they live up to their role as favorites will be decided for the first time on May 9, 2023 at 9:00 p.m. Because that’s when the semifinals start, in which she has to finish in the top 10 of a total of 15 countries in order to buy the ticket for the final on May 13, 2023, also at 9:00 p.m.
