You will probably agree with me that Football Manager is a slightly different sports game. While FIFA, the NHL, but of course the NBA and Madden are easy to grasp, and the biggest obstacle to winning will be your ability to control the game directly, in sports managers you have to rely solely on your brain. More precisely, to your brain and patience, without which Football Manager from the developers of Sports Interactive simply can not play. There seems to be no point in bringing you closer to other rules of managers, especially for a game that has been on the market for over 15 years and its legacy goes even deeper, I just want to remind you that nothing changes in this regard and as in previous years, an endless supply of tables , charts, rosters, interviews with journalists and watching hundreds, if not thousands of matches. Nevertheless, Football Manager has something in common with other sports games – its evolution due to its annual release may not be obvious at first glance and the news will be noticed especially by those who move from one year to another every year and without waiting.
If you look around the internet, and it doesn’t make sense to hide the fact that Football Manager 22 came out a month ago, the most frequently mentioned novelty is a redesigned match engine. Although it is an important part of the whole experience and the matches form a tangible result of your hard work in the background, at a glance you probably won’t notice much difference from last year. The three-dimensional processing gives you the ability to track the movement of all 22 players, and instead of visualizing the match in your head, you can watch its relatively compelling image directly. However, the developers have improved the movement of individual players, who are no longer on the imaginary disc, on which they slid across the field. Steps, running, but of course the work with the ball is now as animated as you would expect from a football game, although you probably won’t notice as much of it due to the necessary acceleration of matches in the vast majority of cases.
When presink is not the solution
More importantly, the freer movement of the players has a significant effect on the gameplay, because artificial intelligence now has to deal with situations dynamically and respond to them so that watching the match corresponds to its tabular course. Simply put, tactics that worked in the previous year may not work at all in the current year, and vice versa. This is mainly a high presink as a very popular technique, in which players attack the opponent immediately after losing the ball and try to regain the balloon as quickly as possible. This often happened regardless of the current condition of the player during the match, which is not the case now. Of course, I’m not saying that coercive play doesn’t work under any circumstances – if you have type-matched and experienced players, it will work – it’s just not going to be a universal solution for most clubs, as it has been in the past.
Fairly, however, I must admit that to reveal the full potential of the Football Manager would like to play for several years with different teams from different competitions, so that it is possible to objectively assess how the European big club management works against smaller Slavia or Sparta and subsequently even smaller ones such as second leagues or deeper playing units. However, the diversity that Football Manager offers you is very strong this year as well, and you can change your approach to the game based on your own mood and style at any time during your career. Thanks to the gradual evolution of the interface, you have the opportunity to pay attention only to those things that you find interesting and delegate the rest to your assistants, or make decisions only at key moments. But even in this field, Football Manager does not try to impose abbreviations too much, and it is still true that if you want to succeed with a weaker team and overcome even more complex challenges, there is nothing left but to roll up your sleeves and start all matters in person. It can cost a lot of time and it’s definitely not uncommon for you to play five or six days after five or six hours, especially when dealing with training, contracts, cabin mood, management requirements or finding new players.
Data and analysis for everyone
For a better overview of your own team and analysis of its performance, the Data Hub tab is now used, in which there are so many functions that you may not even be able to use them in the initial moments. The analysis comes after your input, some are available automatically and dive into them is basically an in-game game. Don’t you understand why the players in the middle of the field get so tired? Try to have them analyze how often they lose the balls and especially how hard they get them back. Don’t you know why high attackers don’t score their heads? How about an analysis of the way passes and centers forward. Everything actually turns into a little detective work, which can sit unreservedly for some and still obscure the whole event for some. Personally, I see it half and half with the difficulty of using the Data Hub – if you know what you are looking for, you will definitely get the data with the help of your colleagues, otherwise you may feel overwhelmed and maybe frustrated when there are still no results that you would team compositions and strategic guidelines expected.
A similar problem can arise in speeches to players or journalists before and outside matches. Although it is not a new element and has not seen any visible changes compared to last year, I constantly struggled with specific players in an effort to motivate them to match, until I finally decided that our paths must diverge due to repeated demonstrations of disinterest and frustration. However, I did not go out with some journalists, which I could not lean on my side, then I caught criticism from the media from them, and it directly and indirectly affected the members of the implementation team, and therefore the players. The system is set up with an effort to reflect reality, but sometimes it all comes across to me as disproportionate bullying, and compared to other systems to this taste, this element is too subject to chance.
What about Czech?
Officially, Football Manager 22 does not offer Czech localization. Nevertheless, we are already working on a fan translation, which is based on the localization for last year. This is also proof of how similar both games are and the authors from the F-Mko.cz website could have made their work easier. According to the available information, the Czech language could be available in the summer, but if you pay a membership fee on the mentioned website, you will automatically become a tester and you can start using the alpha version of the resulting translation.
If I have to stay with the news, it is definitely worth mentioning the final day of the transfer window, in which – taking into account the genre – emotions increase rapidly and the bidding on players in the last few hours is really gaining momentum. I also think that the conversations with the agents of the selected players are a little clearer and do not act as a negotiation of war surrender, so you will really know if the player is interested in joining your team, what is its market value compared to data from their own scouts and you will also learn the relatively exact amount that the player requests to see on their weekly paycheck. However, I am sorry that any attempt to delay the decision on the contract will at least make the agent or player angry, and you do not have the space to change your mind. Yes, you can request extra time, but if you don’t respond fast enough, anger will come. I am not even talking about the possibility of leaving the negotiations, because it is synonymous with a loss of trust and affection, so any further efforts usually lead to the rejection of the offer and the need to look elsewhere.
In this example, however, you can clearly see what details can be found in the game this year as well, and that playing requires a specific nature and interest in tables and graphs. Unfortunately, even this time the game does not offer official support for Czech, so despite the elaborate help for individual windows of the manager, I am reluctant to fire that even newcomers can easily find their way to it. Paradoxically, they will find it more difficult if they choose one of the famous clubs and try to meet not exactly low management requirements. It is the non-fulfillment of obligations such as placement in the league or success in the cups that leads to a spiral of death, which can also end in dismissal and the search for a new engagement. That is, only after the whole cabin is divided into several groups that hate you and everyone else, and when the next manager will have a lot of work for you to get things right again. On the contrary, when things work out, the minor stunts seem like mini-scenarios that need to be addressed, and the gameplay doesn’t end up being so difficult to get on with the way Football Manager 22 wants to play and get satisfactory results.

Despite the changes that you will reveal gradually and over an area of tens of hours, however, I do not think that the current year is a necessity and a clear purchase at a time when you are only filming the eleventh season in the previous part. Yes, if you like analysis and statistics, you will definitely come to your senses, in which case you can boldly take advantage of the Game Pass offer, which contains both the basic PC version and a light version designed primarily for playing on consoles. Otherwise, I feel that improving the almost perfect game will be more difficult for developers from year to year if they do not want to touch the individual systems more significantly. The adept is definitely training or interviews with journalists, but everything else can easily remain as it is and you will be enough for the next years. Not the game ones, but the real ones.
