Five new features announced for Messenger

WhatsApp has been given a major boost: the popular messenger has five new features. One of them is used for privacy and protects against prying eyes.

WhatsApp Status is one of the most popular features in Messenger. Status messages to contacts disappear again after 24 hours – ideal for short updates in between. So it’s not surprising that WhatsApp is working on the status. What is remarkable, however, is the large number of innovations that the messenger has now announced.

Five new features for WhatsApp status

WhatsApp status has five new functions. “They make it even easier to connect and communicate with others,” WhatsApp promises in the announcement. Whatsapp). We summarize the five innovations:

• Selection of a private audience: Not every status is suitable for every contact. WhatsApp knows this too and now makes it possible to update the privacy settings for each status. With each new status, WhatsApp users can decide who should see it and who shouldn’t. The setting is saved and reused in the next status.
• language status: Voice messages up to 30 seconds long can now be shared in WhatsApp status. According to WhatsApp, this should make the status messages more personal and especially useful for people who prefer to send voice messages instead of text messages.
• status reactions: Sometimes an emoji says more than 1,000 words. This is exactly why WhatsApp is now introducing reactions to status messages. It’s child’s play: simply swipe up on the status and choose the right reaction from one of eight emojis.
• Status profile rings for new messages: The WhatsApp status disappears after 24 hours – too bad if you miss a great status. To prevent this from happening again, WhatsApp is introducing status profile rings. If there is a new status from a contact, the ring around the profile picture is displayed. The rings can be seen in the chat list, the participants list in groups and in the contact info.
• Link preview in status: Links that are shared in status now also get a visual preview. It looks better and “your contacts can imagine more under the link before they click on it,” explains WhatsApp.

Flag for kept messages

The innovations in the status have been available to many users for some time. WhatsApp now only summarizes them. WhatsApp users, on the other hand, still have to wait for a label for messages that are kept despite automatic deletion. This labeling symbol is currently being tested internally.
