Fitbit watches can reveal the long-term consequences of COVID-19

There will definitely be those who have surpassed COVID-19. The happier group did not have any major problems during or after the illness. Others may feel that their virus has changed them. Either your lungs and bronchi may no longer function fully, you have various unpleasant problems with smell or taste, or even your heart works a little differently. According to The New York Times, the heart problem can now be detected with a Fitbit watch.

Sensors detect not only the onset of COVID-19, but also its consequences after overcoming

The study says some people who have recovered from a coronavirus infection have had an increased heart rate for weeks to months. Because one in five Americans uses some wearable electronics, such as a fitbit bracelet or watch, an Apple Watch, and others, the developers were also thinking of a system that could automatically detect the early signs of coronavirus infection.

However, these devices have various sensors, such as heart rate, body temperature, physical activity and more. As for the long-term consequences of overcoming COVID-19, they can also be detected thanks to wearable electronics.

Volunteers allowed the sharing of body data, interesting things were found

Data from Fitbit suggest that people who survived the coronavirus had some changes for weeks to months, not only psychologically but also physically. Evidence may be, for example, an increased heart rate for a long time.

These symptoms reportedly lasted longer than other respiratory problems. Wondering how it is possible that Fitbit has this data? Don’t worry, these are volunteers who have downloaded the app MyDataHelps and agreed to share health information with Fitbit and Apple Watch, respectively.

At the same time, they used this apk to report symptoms during their illness, for research purposes. People recovering from COVID-19 have reported symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, headaches, depression, severe palpitations or chest pain.

875 people wearing Fitbit bracelets reported already known symptoms such as fever, cough, body aches, higher and other respiratory problems. 234 were tested positive. The others were infected with another disease.

It was found that volunteers from both groups slept more, walked less and had an increased heart rate even while lying down. Shortly after they became infected with the coronavirus, their heart rate dropped, but then it was only rising.

After overcoming the disease, it was said that it took an average of 79 days for the heart rate to return to normal. For those who were infected with something else, it took only 4 days for comparison.

How is COVID-19 actually able to increase the heart rate?

This means that smart watches or bracelets can detect longer-term symptoms caused by COVID-19 infection. But what causes this long-term increase in heart rate?

Well, it is known that the coronavirus also attacks our nervous system, which controls all natural phenomena as well as the heartbeat. The reason will therefore be to affect the nervous system, which also causes other, long-term problems for patients after overcoming COVID. Interesting and at the same time quite scary, don’t you think?
