OnePlus artificially restricts applications from accessing the full performance of the phone

OnePlus almost always used the top components that existed at the time in its smartphones. We are mainly talking about the processors used. Unfortunately, the “flagship killer” days have passed, but for its main model line, the manufacturer still uses the latest and greatest Snapdragon chipsets from the workshop of the American giant Qualcomm. But performance is not always used to its full potential, even at times when it should be. The information is reported by the Android Police web portal.

Samsung Galaxy Buds 2: All information in one place

Is this a real scandal where the user does not have access to the full potential of the smartphone?

Theoretically, the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are one of the fastest mobile phones available today. At first glance, this may come to you, but an interesting finding is that applications do not have access to the full potential of the processor.

Although the OxygenOS extension allows benchmark applications to take full advantage, other applications from the Play Store are limited. During their use, the processor is simply overclocked and will not be able to access the full performance of the device.

OnePlus seems to want to reduce battery discharge

The only reasonable explanation is the company’s effort to reduce energy consumption and extend battery life, but even that is nothing extra and only reaches an average value. As for the list of applications that are somewhat limited by OnePlus, this is a very wide list of titles.

Applications ranging from office apps such as Microsoft Office to various third-party Internet browsers seem limited. To our surprise, even the built-in applications have certain limits on access to the full performance of the smartphone.

In short, almost all applications that you only know by name will probably be limited. Of course, on the other hand, it is possible to find some exceptions. This is, for example, the Internet browser Vivaldi or the game Genshin Impact.

Benchmark applications do not show us the real performance of the device

What does all this mean in the end? Well, the fact that benchmark applications will show us only the gross performance of the device, while the reality may be somewhere else. There is a lot of software that can either be poorly optimized or “boast” of something like artificially limiting the maximum performance of the processor.

The best known in this is probably Apple, which artificially slowed down (and perhaps still slows down) its old models. On the other hand, it is possible that no application needs to use the full potential of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is undoubtedly extremely powerful.
