Fitbit strengthens account protection, adds two-factor authentication

Fitbit, a well-known manufacturer of smart bracelets, increases the security of user data. After a long time, it adds the possibility to use two-factor security of accounts. Protection works in the standard form, as we know it well – using SMS codes. The AndroidPolice portal pointed out the news.

Data related to the health of users clearly fall into the category of sensitive information, so it is quite surprising that Fitbit strengthens protection only now. On the other hand, better late than never.

It is speculated that the novelty comes into practice at the instigation of Google, which recently became the owner of the Fitbit brand. In this regard, it was announced some time ago that Fitbit devices would receive the new Wear OS, so the introduction of further improvements would be quite natural.

Switching on is fast

Activation of two-factor verification is performed directly in the settings of a specific account. In practice, this is nothing complicated. It’s a matter of a few clicks and entering the appropriate phone number. During the subsequent login, in addition to the password, it will also be necessary to enter the verification code that will arrive in the SMS message.

If an incorrect code is re-entered during login, the user account will be temporarily suspended for security reasons. Specifically, it should be for 24 hours.

Gradual start

Needless to say, this option may not be available to all users yet. There is talk of a gradual expansion of availability, so it will take some time. If you want to protect your information this way, you should update the Fitbit app. The application should then automatically notify you when new protection is available.
