The first smartphone from Nothing is a fact. Meet the Nothing Phone 1, which will be released in the mid-market. The manufacturer has provided the smartphone with various cool functions, such as the LED lighting on the back. We’ll update you on the new Nothing Phone 1.

It’s finally official; the Nothing Phone 1 has been announced by the manufacturer. It is the manufacturer’s first device. The company’s smartphone has been in the news a lot lately, because Nothing likes to hype things up. But is this really a device that should get everyone excited?

First of all, there is the design, which is clearly inspired by that of the iPhone with a glass housing and a metal frame. The back is partly transparent, but not in such a way that you can see all the components. What you do see is a series of parts that can light up when, for example, a new notification or incoming call is received. In total there are 900 LEDs that also adjust to the size of the ringtone. It is one of the key features of the device.

In terms of further specifications, it is clear that the Nothing Phone 1 will be placed in the middle segment. We see a Snapdragon 778G+ chipset from Qualcomm with at least 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The largest capacity you get from the manufacturer is the combination of 12GB/256GB. The 4500 mAh battery can be charged faster with 33W, although it still takes 70 minutes to fully charge. Wireless charging is possible with 15W, which takes 120 minutes to charge. The fingerprint scanner is integrated in the display, although the smartphone can also be unlocked with facial recognition.

In terms of photography, the Nothing Phone 1 offers a dual camera. This is a 50MP main camera and 50MP wide angle lens. This camera offers optical and electronic image stabilization, along with some extra features. The front camera has 16 megapixels. The screen is an OLED panel with Full-HD resolution and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It offers a size of 6.55 inches. There is an IP53 certification, so the device is not completely waterproof.

Updates

Nothing is immediately clear with what you can expect from updates. The phone comes on the market with Android 12 and Nothing OS, which we know from the Nothing Launcher, for example. Nothing promises four years of security updates, but does not specify the cycle in which they appear. Three Android updates are planned; so that’s Android 13, 14 and 15.

For the Nothing Phone 1 you pay 469 euros. You can order it directly from Amazon starting today in white and black. If you place a pre-order, you will receive it on 21 July. Earlier it was rumored that it would only be available via invite, so that is incorrect.
