The movie CODA on Apple TV Plus has won an Oscar. It is the first time that a film on a streaming service has won the coveted best picture statue.

CODA on Apple TV Plus Wins Best Picture Oscar

A number of remarkable things happened during this year’s Oscar ceremony. Chris Rock, for example, got a big slap from Will Smith after he made a joke about his wife. In addition, the movie CODA (shown on Apple TV Plus) was the big winner of the show.

It is remarkable that CODA comes out as the big winner. It is the first time that a movie from a streaming service has won the Oscar for best picture. In addition, CODA also won in the categories ‘best screenplay’ and ‘best supporting actor’.

The film CODA (Child Of Deaf Adults) is about a deaf family with a daughter (Ruby) who can hear. She works on the family’s fishing boat and is the interpreter for her parents. Her dream is to go to music school. However, Ruby finds herself torn between her family obligations and pursuing her own dream.

According to various reports, Apple bought the rights to CODA for about $25 million. The film was first shown at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. Since August 2021, CODA can be seen on Apple TV Plus.

Other big winner: Dune

By the way, Dune (only available to stream on HBO Max) took home the most Oscars. The blockbuster from the cinema won the prizes for ‘best music’, ‘best sound’ and ‘best visual effects’.

The movie CODA can be seen exclusively on Apple TV Plus. The service was unveiled simultaneously with Apple Arcade and Apple News on March 25, 2019. Apple TV Plus has been available in the Netherlands since November 1, 2019 for a fixed monthly fee of EUR 4.99.
