Fake versions of Windows 11 with malware circulating on the internet
You can download Windows 11, but be careful not to recover bogus versions that have malware. Kaspersky antivirus report that such versions circulate on the Internet and some download them, believing that it is a legitimate version.
It is particularly a question of a file whose name is 86307_windows 11 build 21996.1 x64 + activator.exe. It weighs 1.75 GB, which is already suspect. The official version weighs just under 4 GB and of course does not come with software to activate Microsoft’s operating system. But not everyone is aware of it, so some people download bogus versions of Windows 11. Unsurprisingly, their installation infects the victim’s computer with malware.
Kaspersky claims to have already been able to foil several hundred cases of using bogus Windows 11 installers to distribute malware. The security company warns:
Microsoft has yet to release Windows 11, but the new operating system is already available for download and beta. Cyber criminals, of course, exploit this situation and deliver malware to users who think they are downloading Microsoft’s new operating system.
To get the official version of Windows 11 (which is currently in beta), you must join the program Windows Insider. Once it’s done, go to the Windows Insider Program Settings on Windows 10 and switch to the Dev channel. After that, go to the Windows Update section and grab the test version of Windows 11.
