Facebook’s Metaverse ‘sucks’ – Apparata
There is a ‘fittie’ going on between two large tech companies. Terms like Facebook’s Metaverse isn’t good at all, don’t be shunned.
Facebook is going for it. The metaverse is the future and everything must be linked to it. Even the name of the parent company has been changed to Meta. Well, then you have confidence in it. However, not everyone is wildly enthusiastic.
So says former Nintendo of America COO and President Reggie Fils-Aimé. When asked during an interview about the tech giant, Fils-Aimé bluntly said it was “not an innovative company”.
“I don’t think their current definition [van de metaverse] will be successful”. This is what Fils-Aimé told Bloomberg reporter Emily Chang. “You have to admit that Facebook itself is not an innovative company. They’ve either acquired very interesting things like Oculus, like Instagram. Or they are a quick follower of other people’s ideas. Inherently, they are no more innovative company than the very original social platform created many years ago.”
Oculus should play a major role in the Meta metaverse. It is a leading maker of virtual reality hardware. And its Quest 2 headset is widely regarded as the best product of its kind. They are selling well, about 20 million have been sold now. A good one-year sales figure would have been during his time at Nintendo, according to the ex-Nintendo COO. He has his doubts as to whether these sales figures will remain the same if competitors also enter the market. And we can be sure that this will happen soon.
Part of our life
Fils-Aimé is convinced that the metaverse will influence our lives. However, he doesn’t think that Meta will take the lead in this. He says that to be innovative, companies must prioritize customers and bring fresh ideas to market. But instead, Meta has put ad revenue above all else.
