Expensive energy costs: Schufa makes a surprising proposal

The high energy costs are causing problems for more and more Germans. This is also registered by the Schufa, which reports a rapid increase in negative Schufa entries. Schufa boss Birkholz has now made a surprising proposal as to how the burden on citizens can be relieved.

December is traditionally expensive for many Germans. Christmas presents, visits to restaurants and fireworks all weigh heavily on the wallet. Record inflation and expensive energy prices are on top this year. Schufa boss Tanja Birkholz has now revealed how many citizens are currently suffering.

Schufa proposes interest-free loans for citizens

“We therefore register around 30 percent more negative Schufa entries compared to the previous year,” explains Birkholz to the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The reserves of the people are only limited, this also applies to the middle class, according to the Schufa boss.

Birkholz, who has been a member of the Schufa board of directors since 2020, does not see a quick improvement. On the contrary, because according to the 49-year-old, things are likely to get worse. “That’s why we propose a hardship fund.”

From this pot could the state interest-free loans to people in need who are not entitled to government benefits, but still have to nibble at the high energy costs. Because you can’t survive the crisis by saving alone, says the head of the credit agency: “Of course, the goal must be to save energy, but one or the other may no longer be able to save and need bridging help” (source: daily News).

Every second German has to fall back on savings

Back in November, the Schufa warned of the poor economic situation of many citizens. A representative Schufa survey at the time showed that in the last six months every second German had to draw on their savings to maintain their standard of living. The new Schufa numbers should underpin the drama of the situation once again.
