ExeKiller – -apkrig
The CD Project has attracted a lot of attention to the cyberpunk genre thanks to its Cyberpunk 2077, which can also benefit other game studios and the independent scene. This is also the case of the Krakow team Paradark, which presented its RPG ExeKiller at Gamescom. In it, dystopia meets the environment of the Wild West, which is enriched by cyberpunk and post-apocalyptic elements. And it’s all set in the ruins of New York.
It sounds like finding a common denominator to reach as many target audiences as possible, but the introductory trailer doesn’t look as bad as the pessimists might expect. Monumental radioactive storms, hovercraft over breathtaking canyons and interesting-looking skirmishes between cowboys and bandits don’t really seem cheap at all from the video, even the Bladerunner breeze breathes from the demonstration. The fact that it is the work of only four people is definitely a respectable result.
“We are fans of westerns, post-stage, but also dark sci-fi, cyberpunk and retrofuturism, and ExeKiller was born from a mix of these genres,” says Amadeusz Wróbel, co-founder and head of the Paradark studio.
In ExeKiller, you play as a futuristic headhunter who seeks the essence of being in the wilderness, biochips called SOULS, which allow owners to control the original owners. Naturally, mega-corporations are interested in buying chips, which you can and do not have to sell as a cowboy. Situations can be approached in a very diverse way, with the creators promising a high degree of replayability.
In addition to a story full of conversations and elections, you will find a lot of shooting, sneaking, robbery, racing and also… fights in vehicles. But you can also look forward to dynamic, often murderous weather or to the alternation of day and night, which should affect the possibilities of solving tasks.
Set in alternative history, twenty years after the giant fire that burned most of the planet and only a third of humanity survived. The country is practically uninhabitable, the state arrangement in ruins, and so much has been taken over by entrepreneurs. This New York in 1998 does not sound like a scene of Friends or Sex in the City.
The ExeKiller product page on Steam does not even indicate the release date, it only states that it will arrive when its time comes.
