‘Everyone will clean up their own mess from now on’

Cleaning up endless messes, feeling guilty about everything and everyone or fighting lack of sleep. These mothers came to the conclusion: something has to change here.

Priscilla (40), mother of Bing (8), Eve (5), Tess (4) and Lynn (3).

“My to-do list is endless, but the top 3 are clear: 1) stop preparing healthy meals seven days a week (and include at least one pancake/pizza night a week), 2) stop booking travel – because Due to the corona crisis, we have discovered that the ideal holiday for us is a maximum of two hours from our own home, 3) cutting out horror dates with friends of the children who destroy your house.”

Clearly

Willemijn (40), mother of Julian (8), Thijmen (5) and Philine (1.5).

“I don’t do that much cleaning up around the house anymore. From now on, everyone will clean up their mess themselves.”

You can’t do more than your best

Chantal (32), mother of Kaj (4) and Noah (1).

“I immediately stop feeling guilty about everything and everyone. My children because I don’t give them enough attention, my work because I can’t always be reached, my husband because I don’t always feel like it, my girlfriends because I forget to respond to their messages. I do what I can and I can no longer feel an ounce of guilt.”

Decide yourself

Bo (32), (step)mother of Stijn (10), David (3) and Dagmar (1).

“I will never be employed again. I work so much more effectively as a self-employed person. I can now accelerate when I want and brake when I need to. A relief.”

Power nap

Astrid (43), mother of Noah (7).

“I no longer want to fight against sleep and advocate more power naps during working hours. I often work into the evening and am a bit of a night owl. And especially not a morning person. So how wonderful it is to be able to take a quick power nap of ten minutes somewhere in between.”

Deleted with love

Jannine (37), mother of Elin (8) and Mats (5).

“I don’t start making beds anymore. I fold back my bed, but that’s where it ends. Bedspreads, cushions or other things, I don’t want to know anything about that. I also leave the children’s beds for what they are. All day. The household consists of repetitive activities and this is one that I have happily removed from my to-do list.”
