The best (and craziest) tips for iPhone and iPad

We’ve got some hidden iPhone tips for you again: from shaking your device to undo something, to creating unnamed folders. Which of these tips for your iPhone and iPad did you not know?

1. Restore by shaking: shake it off

A bit strange, but you have to dare: shaking your iPhone (or your iPad!) like a madman when you’ve typed a mistake. Yet it is a hidden function on your device. With this tip for iPhone you can delete text by shaking. Useful? Perhaps. Strange? That’s for sure!

Restore by Scuddling on iPhone

  1. Open the ‘Settings’ app;
  2. Scroll down and tap ‘Accessibility’;
  3. Tap ‘Touch’;
  4. Set the option for ‘Shake recovery’ to on.

Now when you type a text and make a typo, you can undo the text by shaking your iPhone. This also works for many more things. For example, with this first trick of our iPhone tips you can also retrieve an email that you have just thrown away on your device from the trash. Those weird looks you get, because you’re waving your device like that, you just have to take it into the bargain …

2. Siri has hidden talents: boom bada boom

The voice assistant Siri is, of course, super handy, but this lady (or gentleman) has some hidden talents. With these tips we already lift a corner of the veil, but there are many more tricks that Siri can perform on your iPhone. You can read more about this in the 40 funniest questions to the Dutch Siri.

  • Shout “Hey Siri” or press and hold the side button to summon Siri;
  • Say clearly ‘Can you beatbox?’ and Siri will then let you hear his or her hidden beatboxing talent.

Haven’t set up Siri yet? Then you first have to turn on the voice assistant. You do this by tapping: ‘Settings > Siri & Search’. Then turn on the options for ‘Listen to ‘Hey Siri’ and ‘Press the side button for Siri’. Sometimes you then have to read a few sample sentences for the voice assistant.

3. Create folders on your iPhone or iPad without a name

You probably know that you can put apps in a folder. This keeps your home screen clear and you don’t have too many individual apps in view. You should give this folder a name by default, but did you know that it is still possible not to enter a name? iPhoned tells you how!

  • Create a new folder by dragging an app to another app or use an existing folder;
  • Hold your finger on the map until the icons start to wiggle;
  • Choose ‘Change name’;
  • Copy and paste this character (⠀) into the name text box;
  • Tap Done, close the folder, then tap Done.

To rename your map, go through the steps above again and remove the special character. Then give the folder the desired name.

4. Remove the notch on your iPhone

Some iPhone enthusiasts continue to find the notch (the black notch at the top of the screen) an eyesore. There is now a (sort of) solution for this with the Notcho app. This free app hides the notch on your home screen or home screen but shows a small watermark.

Start the app and tap ‘Free wallpapers’ or use your own photos. Have you found a wallpaper you like? Then tap ‘Save’. The image is now in your photos app where you can set it as wallpaper.

Don’t like the app? Then we have another solution for you in these iPhone tips. There are various wallpapers without notch to download for your iPhone. Save the chosen wallpaper to your iPhone and set it as your background by opening the image in the Photos app. Tap the share icon at the bottom left. Scroll down and choose ‘Use as wallpaper’.

5. Create your own App Store wishlist

When you see a nice app in the App Store, but the price is still too high, you sometimes want to wait for a sale. Only it is not (any longer) possible to create a kind of favorites list in the App Store. One of the tips you will get is to download a separate app on your iPhone. However, there is an easier way that we show you here

  • Open the app’s information page in the App Store;
  • Tap the share icon, this is the square with the arrow;
  • Scroll to the “Notes” app in the list and tap on it;
  • Leave the data and tap ‘Save’;
  • Repeat the steps above for each app you want to save to your wishlist.

To view the App Store Favorites list, open the Notes app. By default, the note you just created has the name of the first app you added to the list. Open the note to see your App Store wishlist.
