Eva Jinek about pregnancy: ‘Sometimes a bit of an agony’

On Friday, Eva Jinek announced that she was expecting her second child. In her newsletter she is very candid about all the ailments that come with pregnancy. “I swear to you, being pregnant is a trip. And sometimes a little agony too.”

Ailments

“Nausea washes up in waves, then strong, then nagging in the background. I’m dog tired. Gravity regularly gets too much for me and I end up napping on the concrete floor with the thin, not too fresh rug. I’m so tired I don’t care.” The steep stairs at her work are quite a challenge these days. “When no one is looking, I hold my breasts on my way up and down because they hurt so much.”

She also talks about the tears that flowed in her program in recent months. “I think of all the times that hormones colored my day, that they made me extra sensitive to the sadness of others, to images of children, to melancholy. How hard I had to pull out all the stops to suppress that, make it manageable and broadcastable.”

Hidden

The presenter is especially relieved that she was finally allowed to announce the news to the world and that she no longer has to hide her belly from her colleagues. “My colleagues and I spend more intense hours together in a day than we do with our families and loved ones, and they didn’t know the most important thing that was going on in my life.”

That makes her think about all the other things women keep hidden. “The miscarriages, the infertility, the pain of ailments like endometriosis, menopause. Normal life so to speak.” She concludes with: “Maybe I will have a daughter now and she will grow up in a world where it will become more normal not to hide normal life anymore.”
