Esther Vedder expecting first child: ‘I couldn’t believe it’

Wonderful news for Esther Vedder: the jewelery designer is expecting her very first child. Kek Mama called the mama-to-be.

It’s New Year’s Eve when a second line appears on the test. “I expected in advance that I would cry very hard, but that did not happen. I was too amazed, just couldn’t believe it. I did five more tests after that, then it just dawned on me a bit.”

New year, new life

Esther doesn’t dare to hope for it either. “I had not had a period for over a month before. Then I felt all kinds of things, I was almost sure that I was pregnant… but it turned out not to be the case. I was so disappointed that I thought: I’m not going to drive myself crazy again.”

It’s her boyfriend who suggests taking a test anyway. “So that the idea would be out of my head before we went to the party. He never expected the result either, said: ‘I’m sure it’s nothing’… but of course there wasn’t a nicer way to ring in the new year!”

“I was so disappointed then that I thought: I’m not going to drive myself crazy again.”

Ailments

Esther is now in her second trimester and she feels very well. “I actually have no ailments, fortunately I have not been nauseous at all. Do I have problems with my hormones? I don’t think so, but my sister probably says something else, haha.”

Twin sister Anne (the other Vedder from Vedder & Vedder) knows her through and through. “’You’re acting so different’, she said, ‘while, of course, I tried not to show anything. That was the hardest part for me: life went on as usual, while I carried that little secret with me. Normally I tell her everything.”

Jewelry

In the end, Esther announces it in a very special way: she engraves her very first echo in, how could it be otherwise, a piece of jewelry. “That very first ultrasound was the most extraordinary image I had ever seen. Suddenly I understood what all pregnant women feel.” Aunt Anne was engraved on the back. How was the response? “Very emotional, of course.”

Nesting urge

Nestling urge does not yet have the mama to be. “Not at all. I was really looking forward to the announcement, I’m going to enjoy this first. We do everything step by step. We could already know what it will be, but that will also remain a surprise for the time being.”

Esther is due in August.
