If there is one thing we found out during the Corona crisis, it is that the Netherlands secretly still has some beautiful places. If you want to discover more of the Netherlands, the Nature Route app from Natuurmonumenten comes in very handy.

Natural Monuments app

With the Nature Route app from the Natuurmonumenten app you can discover more of the Netherlands while walking, cycling or canoeing. We were pointed to the application by Harold. The app gives access to more than 260 routes, which you can find spread across the Netherlands. New routes are also constantly being added to the app, so you can put on your hiking boots again and discover even more.

When you have started the app, you will get an overview with a search field. Here you select where you want to find which route. For example, you can search for walks in your own area, or in a chosen place. You can filter these results by distance, or by different properties, such as finding locations where you can take your dog, which are suitable for the wheelchair and which are good with children.

Routes

At the different routes you will find a photo, the starting point and some information. Once you have downloaded the route, you can also consult it offline. On the map you can see which route is being taken, and you will receive extra information about what to see at each stop. You can also open the different steps in a list. You can leave the map open during your walk, bike ride or canoe route, so that you know exactly whether you are still going well. It is a pity, however, that the blue arrow does not rotate like a compass, making it sometimes more difficult to see which direction to go.

The Natuurmonumenten Route app gives you routes from all over the Netherlands. For example, just for Drents-Friese Wold, a beautiful nature reserve in our country, you will find four different routes that have been set out by Natuurmonumenten. All the different walks you can take can be found on the map. You will also find the various visitor centers and preserved routes.

Three routes are available to everyone for free. Members of Natuurmonumenten can consult all routes for free. Not a member, but if you do want to get all the routes, you can get them through an in-purchase for an amount of 4.99 euros per year.
