Elon Musk promises a super safe four-wheel ATV

There’s news on Tesla’s first quad. The US automaker presented the Cyberquad together with the Cybertruck. Since then it had become quiet about the ATV. Now Elon Musk has commented on it.

In November 2019, Tesla presented the highly regarded pickup called Cybertruck. Its market launch was originally planned for 2021, and one million reservations should already be made. We now know for sure that 2021 will not be the year of the market launch, which Tesla boss Elon Musk largely attributes to the corona crisis and the worsening semiconductor shortage in the industry. It should be so far in 2022 – the Tesla Cybertruck should come, even if minor changes to the design are still to be expected.

Cyberquad also presented at the end of 2019

Anyone with a good memory can possibly remember that an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) called Cyberquad was also presented on the occasion of the presentation of the Cybertruck. Basically, the quad only served to show how much space there would be on the cargo area of the Cybertruck. Tesla obviously had a quad that was already on the market – it was speculated about the Yamaha 700 Raptor – with a couple of aluminum aprons, making it look more futuristic and more appropriate to the Cybertruck.

Accordingly, there was only little information available about the supposed product at the beginning, and even less afterwards. In any case, Musk had in the meantime confirmed that the ATV was still being planned. However, it should first be offered as a retrofit option for the Cybertruck.

Now, however, the Tesla boss has asked on the occasion the shareholders’ meeting On October 7th, 2021 in the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, I would have to say something more binding about it. That reports Electrek.

There’s news about the Cyberquad – firsthand

His statements suggest, however, that the project has not yet seen a priority at Tesla and not a lot of development work. He let it be known verbatim:

“We’ll definitely be making the Cybertruck here, and probably the ATV as well. The ATV is an interesting design challenge because ATVs are quite dangerous and we want to build an ATV that is the least dangerous ATV. “

By “here” Musk meant the gigafactory in Austin. So it could be that the electric quad will also be built in Texas. The new plant in GrĂĽnheide is already being discussed as a production location for the Cybertruck. Could that mean that the Cyberquad is also made in Germany? Not clear.

So we learn that Tesla wants to build a Cyberquad that should be particularly safe. How should that look exactly? Musk also commented on this:

“It will have a very low center of gravity because the battery pack will be low down. I think we can do some things with the suspension to make it really hard to get this thing to roll. Bad things happen when an ATV rolls. It will be the ATV that won’t roll. “

The Cyberquad should therefore have a very low focus. This is achieved by mounting the battery pack as deep as possible. One commonplace chases the next in Musk’s testimony. In addition, the quad should not just roll away because that would be dangerous. Oh?!

Superficial statements suggest a long waiting period

We know Elon Musk is a perfectionist. Statements of such triviality only allow the conclusion that the Cyber Quad has not yet been further developed. On the other hand, a four-wheel ATV isn’t rocket science.

A company that succeeds in building gigafactories within a year should also be able to create a suitable version of a futuristic quad. So let’s wait and see if the Cybertruck market launch will not be accompanied by a suitable quad.
